Special Sessions

Invited Special Sessions

WIAMIS 2008 will include invited Special Sessions:

  1. COST292 Special Session organized by Noel O’Connor (DCU). Towards Automated Robust Vision-based Surveillance.

Papers submitted to the Invited Special Sessions will be reviewed by a mix of reviewers from the WIAMIS 2008 Program Committee and from the Program Committee of the Invited Special Sessions.

Accepted Special Sessions

WIAMIS 2008 will include the following Special Sessions:

  1. ADVISE: Advanced Video Services Delivery over Heterogeneous  Network
  2. Multimedia Metadata: 8th International Workshop on Multimedia Metadata Management and Retrieval
  3. Rushes: Multimedia Indexing and Retrieval of Unedited Audio-Visual Footage

Papers submitted to the Accepted Special Sessions will be reviewed by reviewers from the WIAMIS 2008 Program Committee.

Please note that the special session organizer(s) and at least one author per accepted paper for each of the special session will be required to register for the workshop.

WIAMIS 2008 Special Sessions: Context and Objectives

WIAMIS 2008, the 9th International Workshop on Image Analysis for Multimedia Interactive Services, to be held May 7-9, 2008, in Klagenfurt, Austria, will include Special Sessions aiming to cover case-studies, different topics joined under the specific framework of a research project, and technical and scientific advances in a specific topic.

Objectives and topics of interest are, but not limited to:

  • present valuable research results in the larger context in which they have been achieved (e.g., an EC-funded R&D project);
  • present a set of technologies constrained to a specific application domain; o present valuable research results achieved by specific communities to a wider audience;
  • present explorations regarding future and emerging technologies or showing different (alternative) approaches to solve recent research issues;

WIAMIS 2008 Special Sessions are expected to have between 5 and 8 papers each. Papers solicited for Special Sessions will undergo the same rigorous reviewing process by anonymous and independent reviewers as regular papers. If after the reviewing process less than 4 papers submitted to a Special Sessions are selected, the Special Session will be cancelled and the papers that passed the review process will be presented within the main technical track of the workshop. Accepted (non-cancelled) Special Sessions may be supplemented by papers selected from the general pool depending on the reviews of the papers originally proposed for the session.

Special Session papers will be published together with regular papers in the workshop proceedings. At least one author for each paper in the Special Sessions must register for the workshop and present the paper.

Call for Special Sessions

The Program Committee of WIAMIS 2008, the 9th International Workshop on Image Analysis for Multimedia Interactive Services, to be held May 7-9, 2008, in Klagenfurt, Austria, invites proposals for Special Sessions.

Proposals for Special Sessions must include:

  • Title of the Special Session
  • Rationale of the motivation and objective of the Special Session
  • Session outline
  • Specific topics of interest
  • Contact information for the Special Session chair
  • Short biography of the Special Session chair
  • List of authors who have agreed to present a paper in the Special Session (if their papers are accepted), and a tentative title and abstract of each paper.

Proposals for Special Sessions should be submitted to José M. Martínez (JoseM.Martinez@uam.es) before November 23, 2007. Prospective organizers are strongly encouraged to contact José M. Martínez in advance. Notification of accepted of proposals is scheduled December 1, 2007, while the deadline for paper submission and review are the same as for regular papers.
