For the workshop dinner, buses will take us to Mount Magdalena (Magdalensberg), 1059 m, approx. 20 km northeast of Klagenfurt. Buses will leave near the university bus stop at 18:30 and return to the city center and the university at approx. 23:00.
Magdalensberg is a historic place, with an ancient town having existed close to the mountain top from the first century B.C. to the first century A.D. The place was a center of trade, due to rich iron ore mining in the area. The archaeological site is one of the most important ones in Austria.
From the mountain top toward the south, you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Klagenfurt Basin and the Karawanken, a scenic chain of mountains on the Slovenian border. And toward the north, there will be the unique opportunity of a top view of Hochosterwitz Castle, one of the most impressive Austrian medieval castles.
And of course, there will be great food and fine drinks in a fine restaurant of rural style (Gipfelhaus) on top of the mountain. Enjoy this evening!
